A Standing Army for the European Union? | National Review
Assuming that such an army is raised, what makes its existence worth
additional consideration is that the political path of the EU is
incapable of being the subject of proper debate. Since the European
Treaty can be changed only by a majority vote of its signatories, there
is no real way for members to challenge its inner workings. There is
only one path: towards “more Europe.” And that leads to the ongoing
diminishment of the nation and those would defend it. But this
deterministic path is now threatened by the increasing number of peoples
in Europe who view the surrender of their sovereignty as an absolute
loss. The Union cannot be reformed along their lines. Either it snaps or
it defends its present course. On this point, Macron is providing
leadership. But is anyone really following him? And if not, will they be
made to?

The Bush Approach To The Presidency Will Return
The era of Baby Boomer control that has followed in the decades since
has shown how little quarrel one can have with George H.W. Bush’s old
school approach to leadership – offering the nation what it has needed
most at key moments in our history, the command of serious people
brought forward for a serious time. In an era that has embraced
unseriousness as a virtue, America needs it all the more. As they have
done before, they will demand it again. Let us pray there are leaders
like this to heed that call.
The Passing of the Old Republican Party
As good a man as George H.W. Bush was to his very core, he
represented a bygone Republican Party. The United States needed a
transformed Republican Party in 2016 – an assertive party, an
unapologetic party, a combative party when necessary. Most importantly,
it needed a leader who would break the mold of a genteel Grand Old Party
that had grown timid, sclerotic, and passive. It needed Donald John
Trump.George H.W. Bush was the right man for his country in his time. Donald J. Trump is the right man for his country in his
time. The old Republican Party needed to pass away and be infused with
an unapologetic feistiness and renewed spirit. It accomplished that with
Mr. Trump. Its rebirth may be its salvation.
