Grace

Florence + The Machine

though it is about her sister i like to thinks its about the idea of grace

This is the only thing I’ve ever had any faith in
Grace, I know you carry us
Grace, and it was such a mess
Grace, I don’t say it enough
Grace, you are so loved

Uh uh
And you, you were the one I treated the worst
Only because you loved me the most
We haven’t spoken in a long time
I think about it sometimes
I don’t know who I was back then
And I hope on hope
I would never treat anyone like that again

America Is Intolerably Intolerant | National Review

Oh, we can “do justice” — with vindictive glee. But are we kind? Do we have the slightest trace of humility? As any Christian who grew up in the bonds of fundamentalist legalism can tell you, justice untempered by mercy grinds the human heart into dust. And now we’re besieged by a secular fundamentalism that positively delights in inflicting pain on its enemies.

Of course we can and should disagree — even sharply — with bad ideas, but we should take very great care before any person uses the power of their platform — great or small — to attempt to humiliate another human being. Criticism can be conducted with respect and with the humble awareness that our own mistakes are ample and easily found.

Paypal and Patreon deplatforming people like Milo is a harbinger of things to come. Just wait until the local bank or supermarket doesn’t allow you to use their services because of something you said on social media. Or how you voted. Or because you own a firearm. It might not be tomorrow, but it is coming. And probably sooner than you think.

A Nation of Bastards

People
may debate the value of these dynamic forces, but most can agree that
they are not going to be stopped much less reversed.  Some may attempt
to resist these forces by homeschooling or having a home business, but
often face great difficulty.  The family of just 100 years ago had more
in common with families throughout the ages and cultures than with the
vestige that survives in modern life today.

It
is not just illegitimacy that contributes to the bastardization of our
country.  Divorce is also a contributing factor in fatherlessness.
There is also that which might be called “de-facto fatherlessness”.  The
father who resides with a family but is either absent for purposes of
work or withdraws into the comfort of TV and alcohol also makes a
contribution to fatherlessness.

Opinion | The Problem With Wokeness

This
mental habit is closely related to what we now call “wokeness.” In an
older frame of mind, you try to perceive the size of a problem
objectively, and then you propose a solution, which might either be
radical or moderate, conservative or liberal. You were judged primarily
by the nature of your proposal.

But
wokeness jams together the perceiving and the proposing. In fact,
wokeness puts more emphasis on how you perceive a situation — how woke
you are to what is wrong — than what exactly you plan to do about it. To
be woke is to understand the full injustice.

There
is no measure or moderation to wokeness. It’s always good to be more
woke. It’s always good to see injustice in maximalist terms. To point to
any mitigating factors in the environment is to be naïve, childish, a
co-opted part of the status quo.

ok

The modern right has its own trigger words (diversity, dialogue, social
justice, community organizer), its own safe spaces (Fox News) and its
own wokeness. Michael Anton’s essay “The Flight 93 Election” is only one
example of the common apocalyptic view: Modern liberals are hate-filled
nihilists who will destroy the nation if given power. Anybody who
doesn’t understand this reality is not conservatively woke.

miss characterizations aside, i would love to discover i have some how mistakenly acquired a tin foil hat.
“destroy the nation

“ if you define destroy and nation differently than i maybe we have different definitions of tin foil hat

Most People Can’t Explain Why Meddling With Babies’ DNA Is Wrong

The problem is that, disconnected from any greater ideas about what
behavior is and is not acceptable, the question of consent lacks focus.
If two people can consent to anything, does that mean nothing to which
they consent, if it involves only the two of them, is immoral?

Not to mention that there are more than two people involved in each
of He’s experiments: the doctor, the mother, the father, and the baby.
One of these is incapable of consent and two more were allegedly duped,
but even had it been possible to get everyone on board with the idea,
would it ever be okay to meddle with unborn babies’ DNA?

Most
people don’t spend all day thinking of metaphysics and higher goals.
Many never spend much thought on philosophy in their entire lives.
That’s fine: it’s not necessary that everyone do so. But for most of the
history of western civilization, somebody has been thinking about it, including people who set the rules for important institutions of society.
